MINNEAPOLIS – Tom Izzo said he was going big before his team took the floor at Williams Arena for its second Big Ten game of the season, and he wasn’t kidding.
Izzo went with a post player at the power forward position for the entire game today, starting Matt Costello and Gavin Schilling together, and mixing in Deyonta Davis and Kenny Goins at the two frontcourt spots. It’s the first time he’s done that in a long time.
And it worked. Playing without Denzel Valentine (knee) for the third straight game, the No. 1 Spartans bounced back from their first loss of the season to outlast Minnesota, 69-61.
