Michigan State: Only one athlete known to have tested positive for COVID-19

A male Michigan State University athlete tested positive for COVID-19 in the last three months but was asymptomatic, the school revealed Thursday.

The athlete was not identified. It's not immediately clear which sport he played.

The athlete's father died from the novel coronavirus. His mother and sister also tested positive, Dr. Jeffrey Kovan, MSU director of sports medicine and performance, said in a video conference Thursday. The athlete tested negative a few weeks after the initial positive test.

"He was asymptomatic throughout that process and retested negative a few weeks later," Kovan said. "We've had a couple others that have had symptoms without testing positive that we know of.
