EAST LANSING — Maybe the jitters got to Jake Hartbarger.

Michigan State’s punter, granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA this summer, admitted he shanked his initial punt Friday against Middle Tennessee State, his first since suffering a broken right leg and missing almost all of last season. It went 32 yards and out of bounds, a missed chance to pin Tulsa deep in its own territory.
