Michigan State football staff making due 'the new normal' by coaching players up remotely

Michigan State Spartans football coach Mel Tucker speaks to the media on Monday, Feb. 24, 2020, in East Lansing. Detroit Free Press

EAST LANSING — Mel Tucker sat at his desk, a laptop in front of him and a larger monitor behind it.

Harlon Barnett was all smiles on both. But his face wasn’t the only Michigan State football assistant coach on the screens.

“The new normal,” Tucker, the Spartans’ new head coach, tweeted Tuesday. “Staff meeting. Moving the ball forward.”

Except there is no ball to be played at the moment, not that it would be wise to touch it together right now.
