Michigan State football players may have the perfect mixture of confidence and underdog mentality that there could possibly be. The perfect example of the confidence happened during media day in East Lansing Monday when Malik McDowell and Lawrence Thomas both gave high praise to the MSU defense.

You read that correctly. The two defensive linemen claimed that this Spartan group may have the best defense in school history — even better than the top-five unit that helped MSU win the Rose Bowl in 2013.
