Michigan State football nabs 3-star safety Malcolm Jones hours before signing day

Signing day surprises started a few hours early for Michigan State football.

The Spartans landed a commitment late Tuesday night from three-star safety Malcom Jones to enter Wednesday’s three-day early signing period with 20 players lined up so far for their 2022 recruiting class.

Jones, who withdrew his pledge to Virginia Tech on Monday, announced his intention to join coach Mel Tucker’s program via Twitter, a little more than seven hours after three-star defensive back/wide receiver Shannon Blair from Tennessee decommitted from MSU.

In Jones, the Spartans land a 6-foot-1, 185-pounder from Lee County High in Leesburg, Georgia, where he was a teammate of three-star MSU safety/linebacker commit Quavian Carter.
