Michigan State football has no excuse for this Rutgers debacle

You could argue it’s just one game. And that the head coach didn’t see his team scrimmage for the first time until three weeks ago. And that he didn’t have spring football, or a full training camp this summer, or the kind of in-person meeting and study time to begin building a program.

But then Rutgers’ Greg Schiano was in the same spot as Michigan State’s Mel Tucker. And look what his Scarlet Knights just did to the Spartans in each of their debuts.

The beginning of an era?

Spartan fans better hope not.

One coach had his team prepared, engaged, energized.
