Michigan State football grades for the Spartans' performance at Washington

Lansing State Journal columnist Graham Couch grades Michigan State's football team on a scale of 1-10 after the Spartans' 39-28 loss at Washington.

OFFENSE: 3

If I would have told you before the game that Payton Thorne would complete 30 of 42 passes for 323 yards, three touchdowns and one interception, you’d have taken it, thinking MSU’s offense — and quarterback — had probably hummed along in a big early season game. Problem is, while Thorne and the passing game got it going by the back half of the second quarter, MSU’s offense began the game with three failed drives, including the safety that crippled the Spartans’ momentum.
