Michigan State football, basketball help post record graduation rate

EAST LANSING — Tom Izzo’s men’s basketball team and Mark Dantonio’s football team helped lead Michigan State to its highest graduation rate ever, according to NCAA stats released Wednesday.

Izzo’s program was one of eight MSU sports to have a 100-percent Graduation Success Rate (GSR) between 2008-11. Dantonio’s football players in that same time posted an 82-percent GSR, the program’s best ever.

“As a department, we are committed to the academic success of our student athletes,” new MSU athletic director Bill Beekman said in a release. “These numbers are a reflection of that commitment and the dedication our student-athletes have to win in the classroom.
