Michigan State calls special board meeting to approve Mel Tucker as new football coach

Michigan State University's board of trustees will hold a special board meeting at 3 p.m. Wednesday to approve Mel Tucker as the football's program's 25th head coach.

Mel Tucker, 48, was hired as MSU's football coach early Wednesday after a whirlwind search that began Saturday with Tucker saying he was staying at Colorado and ending with him becoming the 25th coach in program history.

Tucker is expected to receive a hefty pay raise in 2020, after making $2.
