Michigan State basketball's Rocket Watts out for Big Ten opener, may miss more time

Free Press reporter Chris Solari and columnist Shawn Windsor analyze No. 12 Michigan State's 87-75 loss to No. 8 Duke in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.

EAST LANSING — Michigan State basketball’s already-thin perimeter rotation suffered another blow.

Freshman shooting guard Rocket Watts will miss Sunday’s Big Ten opener against Rutgers for the 12th-ranked Spartans with what coach Tom Izzo called “a stress reaction.”

“Rocket won’t play (Sunday), and he might not play next week,” Izzo said after practice Friday. “

Izzo said the 6-foot-2, 185-pound Watts, who has started all eight games, suffered the stress reaction to a non-weight bearing bone and was wearing a walking boot on his left foot at practice.
