Michigan State basketball's Foster Loyer's biggest assist? Helping Cassius Winston

EAST LANSING — Foster Loyer, perhaps the most maligned member of Michigan State’s basketball team, put together a breakout performance Saturday night.

The sophomore scored a season-high 13 points, one off his career high, in the Spartans’ 101-48 blowout of Eastern Michigan. His confidence showed in his shot, 3-pointers raining through the net like they did when he was a high school superstar. Ball fakes, crisp passes, running in transition, even some decent defense that caught coach Tom Izzo’s attention.

But for Izzo, the assist Loyer has provided to the program has gone far beyond what fans see on the court.
