The Spartans started the year just 5-3 with losses to Duke, Virginia Tech and Kentucky and it looked like the preseason No. 1 team was gearing up for a massive letdown. Getting trounced by an above average Duke team at home was not ideal, especially on Draymond Green jersey retirement night, but that seemed to light a fire under this team.
They reeled off eight straight wins, including victories over Rutgers, Illinois and Michigan to start Big Ten play 5-0.
