With the No. 42 overall pick, the Pittsburgh Pirates selected Michigan State baseball shortstop Mitch Jebb in the 2023 MLB draft on Sunday night in Seattle.
Jebb, a Saginaw native who attended Saginaw Swan Valley, hit .337 in 50 games with the Spartans during the 2023 season. He also had 15 doubles, though his home run total dropped from six in 2022 to just one in 2023. Jebb jumped into the prospect realm with his 2022 season, during which he hit .356, then followed it with a .356 batting average in the Cape Cod League, good for second in the top summer collegiate wood-bat league.
