Michigan State appoints two new faculty athletics representatives

Michigan State has appointed a pair of new faculty representatives as it navigates through an NCAA investigation and the continued fallout of the Larry Nassar scandal.

Bonnie Knutson and Michael Kaplowitz, both longtime professors at Michigan State, have been named the school's new faculty representatives, MSU announced in a press release on Thursday.

"To help our athletes succeed both academically and athletically, we look to the faculty representatives to help guide the discussions and policies," MSU interim president John Engler said in a statement. "Their expertise related to university governance, their rapport with students and in Michael's case, a former athlete himself, will serve the council well.
