Special to Detroit Free Press

EAST LANSING — Father and son got to celebrate a state title together Saturday at the Breslin Center.

Michigan State basketball recruit Pierre Brooks II, coached by Pierre Sr., steered Detroit Douglass to a 47-41 victory over Wyoming Tri-unity Christian in the MHSAA Division 4 championship game.

The 6-foot-6 Brooks II, one of Tom Izzo’s prized recruits, had an off-game shooting (6 of 19) but left his imprint on the game with 11 rebounds and five assists to go along with 15 points as Douglass (17-5) captured its first title in school history.
