Michigan State volleyball fans will eagerly await the arrival of the 2021 Detroit Free Press Sports Awards girls athlete of the year, while Michigan football is already getting acclimated to our boys choice.
Julia Bishop, a four-year starter for Farmington Hills Mercy volleyball, is the winner on the girls' side. She will play for the Spartans after leading Mercy to three final four appearances in her four years, including the 2019 Division 1 state championship.
She was also a standout forward on the basketball team before a hand injury ended her season.
