Mel Tucker hires Jay Johnson as Michigan State football's offensive coordinator

EAST LANSING — Mel Tucker is bringing more of his offensive staff to try and jump-start Michigan State football.

Jay Johnson will be the Spartans’ offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, the school released Thursday. The 50-year old held the same role on Tucker’s staff at Colorado last year and has spent 10 of his 25 seasons as an offensive coordinator at Minnesota, Louisiana and Southern Miss.
