EAST LANSING - Michigan State played nine true freshmen last season, which set a record during Mark Dantonio's tenure as coach.
It took only one game this season to match that total and a second to beat it.
Running back Connor Heyward played on special teams in Saturday's 28-14 win against Western Michigan to become the 10th true freshman to play this season for the Spartans. He was on the field when the Spartans received the kickoff to start the second half and threw a pair of blocks.
"Took the redshirt off of Connor Heyward, who I think will be an outstanding player for us," Dantonio said on Tuesday.
