Making sense of Michigan State football's unexpected recruiting momentum

Michigan State football coach Mel Tucker comes from a diverse coaching background, with roles at different levels across the country, and that is paying dividends in East Lansing.

Tucker made stops at LSU, Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia and three NFL teams, serving as an assistant coach and defensive coordinator along his journey. Then he got his first head coaching gig at Colorado in 2019.

What has resulted from those walks of life were recruiting experiences built on relationships with high school coaches, knowledge of geographical areas and an understanding of how to best interact with teenagers.
