Live updates: MSU settle for field goal, leads Miami, 3-0, in second quarter

MSU TAKES EARLY 3-0 LEAD

Michigan State has struck first in Miami, though it's probably a bit disappointing to come away with only three points. A false start to open the second quarter in the red zone set the Spartans back.

Matt Coughlin, the fifth-year kicker for the Spartans, nailed his attempt from 23 yards, and it's 3-0.

That capped an 11-play drive by Michigan State.

Kenneth Walker is starting to feel it, thanks to that drive. He has 49 yards on eight carries.

MSU DRIVING AT END OF FIRST QUARTER

Michigan State quarterback Payton Thorne probably got sick of being on his back, so the Spartans offense went with some quick-strike passing on its third drive.
