John Sturges Honored as Distinguished Spartan

EAST LANSING - When John Sturges played at Michigan State from 1972-76, the Spartans scored a ton of goals, won a lot of games and came within a whisker of making the NCAA Hockey Final Four in 1976.

Sturges, in fact, had a hand in many of those goals and victories. He left school as MSU’s fourth-leading all-time career scorer, right behind three teammates.

And now he sits as the Spartans’ 10th-leading scorer with 77 goals and 132 assists for 209 points.

But for Sturges, a highly skilled left wing from Toronto, his four years at MSU weren’t just about goals and assists and victories.
