When you're in charge of everything, pleasing everyone is impossible.

For Jim Delany, perhaps more than any other figure in the landscape of college athletics over the past three decades, both have been absolutely true.

Delany, arguably one of the most powerful figure in college sports, formally announced Monday his already anticipated plan to retire from his position as Big Ten commissioner in June of 2020.

His tenure will be best remembered for the integral role he played opening the league's flood gates for television money and the eventual realignment phase that followed, along with a variety of polarizing decisions during his roughly 30 years in charge of the league.
