Jase Bowen leaves Michigan State football, signs with Pittsburgh Pirates

Michigan State football’s incoming freshman class just got one player smaller.

Jase Bowen, a wide receiver who signed a letter of intent with the Spartans in December, opted to play pro baseball Wednesday. The Toledo native signed a contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates, who drafted him in the 11th round of the MLB draft on June 5.

“Michigan State will always hold a special place in my heart, but today a childhood dream of mine came true,” Bowen wrote in a tweet with pictures of him signing a contract. “I officially signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates to begin my professional baseball career.
