It was a scene from another time, when optimism was in the air and a new beginning was on the horizon.

Mel Tucker stood behind a lectern on that February evening, beaming a smile and telling a rapt audience of Michigan State dignitaries his plans for the football program he just inherited. Fresh off the plane from Colorado after a whirlwind hiring process, Tucker promised his new regime would immediately come alive.
