Foster Loyer steps in for Cassius Winston, sparks Michigan State to 95-62 blowout

EAST LANSING — No Cassius Winston? No problem.

With its senior All-American taking a night off with a bone bruise in his left knee, No. 16 Michigan State overwhelmed Western Michigan with backup point guards Foster Loyer and Jack Hoiberg running the show in a 95-62 blowout Sunday at Breslin Center.

Loyer turned in career highs in points (16), assists (six) and minutes (21) in his first career start, and Hoiberg provided a spark as the backup in his first extensive action in the final nonconference game of the season for the Spartans (10-3).

Xavier Tillman finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds, Aaron henry had 15 points and five assists, and Kyle Ahrens added 12 points off the bench.
