For Michigan State football, the bowl win might mean nothing, or it means everything

NEW YORK — He ran around forever. From one side to the next, spinning backward, stumbling, and nearly falling before gathering himself again, enough for one more heave down the field.

And when Sam Hartman finally let it fly, and the whole of Michigan State’s sideline followed the arc of the ball, it was fair to wonder if the Spartans were ever going to find a way to secure this game.

They’d surely had their chances. Had played well except for the opening moments. And looked for all the world as if they’d used the past month to find an offense.
