EAST LANSING — Brian Lewerke spiked the ball and gave Connor Heyward a quick, low hand slap and a pat on the helmet.

In just 39 seconds, the Michigan State football offense raced from its own 25-yard line to Arizona State’s 24. Lewerke had hurried to the line after following a 15-yard pass interference penalty and a 25-yard catch-and-run to Darrell Stewart.
