EAST LANSING - Michigan State opened its season with a 35-10 win over Bowling Green on Saturday.

It was only the first game of a new season against a MAC team that finished 4-8 last year, but a step forward for the Spartans following a disappointing 2016. Here's a look at some Michigan State highlights and concerns from the opener:

WR Darrell Stewart Jr.

The redshirt sophomore, who made just one start last year, led Michigan State receivers in the season debut. He finished with career highs of six receptions for 85 yards, including an impressive 40-yard catch and run to the Bowling Green 2-yard line to set up a touchdown late in the first half.
