Brian Lewerke starts for Michigan State while LJ Scott is out again

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Brian Lewerke is back after a one-game absence under center.

The Michigan State redshirt junior quarterback started Saturday's game against Maryland.

Lewerke, who is dealing with an injured right throwing shoulder, had his streak of 20 consecutive starts snapped in last week's 23-13 win against Purdue. Redshirt freshman Rocky Lombardi finished 26-for-46 passing for 318 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in his first career start.

While the Spartans' starting quarterback returned, they are without their starting running back as LJ Scott didn't make the trip with the team. A Michigan State spokesman said players who didn't travel were for injury reasons, not discipline.
