Forget the Name, New-CCHA Will Grapple With Bigger Issues

So the newest conference on the college hockey landscape, is going to use the name of an old conference — the CCHA, i.e. Central Collegiate Hockey Association, which existed from 1970 to 2013, a.k.a. the year of the Great Schism.

This conference is for the seven schools defecting from the WCHA, which itself was a hodge-podge of teams collated from the vestiges of the old WCHA and CCHA that we came to know and love.

If you go off the Internet, the reaction to this news was largely positive. "Yay CCHA."

If you're on social media, you get the usual ginned up outrage over a non-issue, or piles of snark like "gee, that's original.
