Stanton’s 56th Homer Helps Power Marlins Past Mets 9-2 For Sweep

MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — Apparently all the Miami Marlins needed was a little home cooking.

Giancarlo Stanton hit his major league-leading 56th homer and drove in three runs as the Marlins completed a three-game sweep of the New York Mets by winning 9-2 Wednesday.

Miami entered the three-game set at Marlins Park having lost 17 of their last 20. Most of the losses occurred on the road, where the Marlins remained despite a scheduled home series due to Hurricane Irma.

Last weekend’s series against the Brewers was moved from Miami to Milwaukee as South Florida was just beginning to recover from the damage left from Irma.
