Players who start in the rookie-level Dominican Summer League are signed at a remarkably early age, as young as 16 in most cases. As such, not many of them make it as far as the major leagues. Marinez is expected to make it further than most, and was ranked as high as number 29 in the Miami Marlins Pipeline last season.
