Marlins trade Jonathan Villar to Blue Jays for Griffin Conine (Jeff’s son!!!)

Jonathan Villar’s tenure with the Marlins has come to an end after only 30 games. There is a deal in place to send him to the Blue Jays in exchange for minor league outfielder Griffin Conine, per multiple reports. The clubs haven’t confirmed the deal yet.

It’s been an inconsistent season for Villar: .272/.328/.360, 90 wRC+, 0.3 fWAR in 126 PA. Despite leading the National League with nine stolen bases, he hasn’t added much positive value with his legs due to his low success rate (64.3%). The Marlins began 2020 trying the 29-year-old in center field, but that experiment was quickly abandoned.
