On Friday, the Marlins modified their player pool for the 2020 MLB season, placing catcher Will Banfield on the injured list and filling his spot with fellow catcher Santiago Chávez. The pool remains full with the maximum 60 players, including every member of the 40-man roster.

According to Section 6.1.3 of the MLB Operations Manual, “non-40-man roster players [such as Banfield] may be removed from the Club Player Pool by an approved trade, release, placement on the COVID-19 Related Injured List, or placement on the Military, Voluntarily Retired, Restricted, Disqualified, or Ineligible Lists.
