Tyler Van Dyke starts at quarterback in place of injured D’Eriq King vs. Central Connecticut State

MIAMI GARDENS — With D’Eriq King not available, quarterback Tyler Van Dyke will make the first start of his collegiate career in the Miami Hurricanes’ Saturday game versus Central Connecticut State at Hard Rock Stadium.

Van Dyke, a second-year freshman, beat out true freshman Jake Garcia for the starting spot against the Blue Devils, but coach Manny Diaz said both freshman quarterbacks would get playing time on Saturday.

Van Dyke, a former four-star prospect out of Suffield Academy in Glastonbury, Conn., appeared to be ahead of Garcia on the depth chart earlier in the season when he replaced King during the final two possessions of Miami’s 44-13 season-opening loss to Alabama, rushing for 17 yards on three attempts against the Crimson Tide.
