State to review complaint against Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony over paperwork

Florida’s top law enforcement agency confirmed Wednesday it will look into Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony’s sworn affidavit that asserts that he has never had a criminal record sealed or expunged, and pledging that all the answers he provided were “true and correct.”

The move comes days after it came to light that Tony had kept it a secret that he shot and killed a man in 1993.

“We did receive a complaint and we will review the complaint,” said Gretl Plessinger, spokeswoman for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. “We do not have an active investigation.”

As the South Florida Sun Sentinel first reported on Tuesday, Broward prosecutors sent the so-called “affidavit of applicant” to the FDLE for review.
