After catching six passes for 82 yards and a touchdown in the Miami season-opening 27-24 win over Notre Dame on Sunday night, Miami freshman wide receiver Malachi Toney was named the 247Sports National True Freshman of the Week.
Toney scored the first TD of the season for Miami on a 28-yard reception from Carson Beck. Beck and Toney quickly developed a rapport. Toney had four receptions for 59 yards and a TD in the first half. Toney led Miami in receptions, receiving yards and targets versus Notre Dame.
On the drive that gave Miami a 7-0 lead, Toney had three receptions for 52 yards.
