Miami safety Jakobe Thomas is getting some national recognition for his amazing performance against Florida State. The Football Writers Association of America named Thomas the Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week after the Hurricanes' 28–22 victory at No. 18 Florida State. Thomas had 5 solo tackles, 1 sack, 1 interception, 1 forced fumble and 2 pass breakups in the matchup.

Each regular season, the association selects a weekly Nagurski honoree, and those players are added to the Nagurski Trophy watch list if they weren't already on it.
