Gauthier started 29 consecutive games for the Miami Hurricanes at center through the regular season-ending victory over Pittsburgh. Junior Hayden Mahoney started in Gauthier’s place. Mahoney started nine games at guard for Miami this season.
Mahoney and Sophomore backup offensive lineman Corey Gaynor will likely battle to be the starting center in 2019. Gauthier’s loss is significant. He makes the calls at the line of scrimmage and helped a Miami offense that improved immensely running the football in 2018. Miami averaged 160.8 yards per game in 2017 and 197.3 in 2018.
