Miami Hurricanes News and Notes — former Hurricanes closer Bryan Garcia makes MLB debut, more

In the sixth round of the 2016 MLB Draft, the Detroit Tigers took a chance on a closer out of Miami after dominating in his three years as a Hurricane. Early on, Garcia was a Freshman All-American and then left the program as the Stopper of the Year, an award given to the nations best reliever by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).

The NCBWA also named Garcia a First Team All-American after his junior year.

Slightly over three years after his named was called on draft day, Garcia got the call to “The Show” and threw a 1-2-3 ninth inning against a Minnesota Twins team that recently broke the MLB record for home runs in a season.
