Smith started for the Miami Hurricanes against Virginia Tech for Junior Michael Pinckney who was suspended for the game against the Hokies. That was his first start of the season. Smith had five tackles against Virginia Tech which was his second highest total this season. He had six against Duke on November 3.
Smith is the primary backup for Pinckney at weakside linebacker and Shaq Quarterman in the middle. Although Smith is out against Pittsburgh, he is expected to be back from Miami’s yet to be determined bowl game.
