The commitment of three-star defensive lineman Daylen Russell moved the 2024 Miami football class to 23rd nationally. Miami passed Mississippi and Wisconsin moving up from the 25th class nationally. Russell is an under-ranked DL who was the Miami Herald Miami-Dade County 4M-3M 2022 Defensive Player of the Year.
Per David Wilson of the Herald, Russell had 62 tackles, eight tackles for loss and eight sacks in 2022 helping lead Miami Columbus to a state championship. Miami beat out Louisville and Nebraska for a Russell commitment. Russell recently named Louisville, Miami and Nebraska as his three finalists.
