Miami Baseball alum Alex Cora and Red Sox ready to defend title

The Red Sox are opening the 2019 season in Seattle. That’s an aberration for the defending World Series Champion. Alex Cora was inducted into the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame in 2006. He was a stellar shortstop for the Miami baseball team before his Major League career.

You won’t find Cora among the season or career leaders at Miami but he was one of the most prolific players in the history of the baseball program. Cora was named to the All-College World Series teams in 1995 and 96.

Cora had an iconic, if infamous, despondent picture in 1996 after the Hurricanes lost a one run lead in the bottom of the ninth inning when LSU’s Warren Morris hit two-run walkoff homerun to give the Tigers the 9-8 victory and 1996 College World Series title.
