Hyde: Miami-Nebraska still a big game, but for different reasons

Well, they'll all be there Saturday. All the great ghosts of Miami versus Nebraska. Kenny Calhoun, for one. He won UM's first national championship by tipping away a two-conversion pass against the Cornhuskers in the 1984 Orange Bowl.

In the stadium that night, 13-year-old Darrin Smith decided Miami was his forever team. Eight years later, Smith helped win the Hurricanes another national title in a shutout of Nebraska at the Orange Bowl. He'll be back Saturday, too.

That kind of success sold Jerome McDougle. The Pompano Beach kid saw the rings flashing and earned one himself in the 2001 Rose Bowl in yet another win against Nebraska.
