The Miami Hurricanes missed out on a spot in ACC Tournament semifinals that will instead go to Duke.
Catcher Michael Rothenberg, a South Florida native and Pine Crest grad, belted a walk-off home run to left field in the bottom of the ninth inning, and No. 9-seed Duke topped fourth-seeded Miami, 3-2, on Thursday at Truist Field in Charlotte.
The Blue Devils, after beating No. 5-seed Florida State, 12-1, on Wednesday, went 2-0 and won Pool D before the Hurricanes faced the Seminoles on Friday. They have a spot in Saturday’s semifinals against the winner of Pool A, which has top-seeded Notre Dame in it.
