Hurricanes look to bounce back in home opener vs. Appalachian State — but it won’t be easy

Appalachian State coach Shawn Clark doesn’t have fond memories of the previous — and only — time the Mountaineers have matched up with the Miami Hurricanes.

The last time the two programs faced off against one another came on Sept. 17, 2016 when UM played a road game against Appalachian State at Kidd Brewer Stadium in Boone, N.C.

On Miami’s first drive of the matchup less than 3 1/2 minutes into the game, running back Mark Walton took a handoff from quarterback Brad Kaaya and ran 80 yards for a touchdown to give the Hurricanes an early 7-0 lead en route to the eventual 45-10 blowout UM victory.
