Hurricanes defensive coordinator Kevin Steele leaving for Alabama

Just one year into his tenure at Miami, Hurricanes coach Mario Cristobal will have to hire his second defensive coordinator.

Cristobal’s first defensive coordinator, Kevin Steele, is leaving Coral Gables to become the new defensive coordinator at Alabama, a source told the South Florida Sun Sentinel

Steele, who has been a college coach since 1980, has an extensive history working with Alabama coach Nick Saban. Steele was Saban’s first defensive coordinator at Alabama in 2007, and he was the “defensive head coach” in 2008. He left the Crimson Tide to become Clemson’s defensive coordinator but returned in 2013 as the team’s director of player personnel.
