Miami and SMU have met only once on the football field. On Sept. 18, 1965, the Mustangs opened their season by grinding out a 7-3 win over the Hurricanes at the Orange Bowl. SMU quarterback Mac White scored the game's lone touchdown and the Mustangs' defense hounded Miami throughout, for an early-season upset.
That 1965 meeting remains the entirety of the series until this season's renewal as conference foes following SMU's move to the ACC last season. The ACC formally welcomed SMU on July 1, 2024, setting the stage for regular meetings between the programs.
