Miami–Florida State has decided national titles and turned kickers into pubic enemy No. 1. Since the first meeting on Oct. 5, 1951, the schools have played 69 times, with Miami leading 36–33 after the Hurricanes' 36–14 win last season.
The early years
Miami won the inaugural game in 1951 (35–13) and held the upper hand for most of the series' first four decades. FSU answered with the first defining streak, ripping off seven straight from 1963–72 as the programs' recruiting footprints began to overlap in South Florida. Those road-heavy Seminole wins at the Orange Bowl laid the groundwork for a rivalry.
